The Resilience Programme
Our resilience programme, refined through years of instructor expertise and feedback from staff and children, aims to strengthen children’s resilience. Daily team-building exercises, coping mechanisms and outdoor adventures foster self-confidence, positive behaviours, effective communication, and teamwork.

Objectives
The programme aims are as follows:
- Increased personal and inter-personal confidence
- Increased social skills
- Increased ability to work effectively with others
- Increased self-awareness
- Increased resilience in the face of challenges
- Introduce the concept of reflective learning
We focus on primary school children who are about to transition to secondary school. This challenging time presents an opportunity to build resilience and instil lifelong skills in these children.
Why Resilience is useful for transition:
It helps young people deal better with:
- New settings – secondary school
- New programmes & courses – GCSE studies, coursework and exams
- New teachers/peers, etc.
- New experiences and opportunities

The 5-day programme will begin with an introduction to the course and an explanation of resilience and its importance.
Each day will be structured to include:
- Progressive ice breaker challenges
- Topic sessions
- Team task sessions
- Activity sessions
Outdoor Development
It has been proven that being outdoors is beneficial to our mental and physical health, so it is therefore at the core of our programme. To test the skills they have gathered through the week, participants step out of their comfort zone by taking part in adventure activities such as gorge walking, climbing, hill walking or raft building.

Expected Learning Outcomes:
- Increased personal and inter-personal confidence
- Increased social skills and effective communication
- Increased ability to work effectively with others
- Increased self-awareness
- Introduce the concept of reflective learning
- Increased resilience in the face of challenges
“Wow! What a great programme! Resilience is so important and I think we need to be doing more of this in our schools, especially with getting our Year 6 pupils prepared for Secondary school. The pupils who took part all gained something from the week whether it was improving their self-esteem, confidence, over-coming fears or working as a team. They were asking when they could do it all again!! Thank you to your staff for delivering a fantastic programme!“ Ruth Lewis, Head teacher, St Therese’s Catholic Primary School
“Every single pupil has thoroughly enjoyed this week. Attendance has improved massively and parents have commented on how happy the children have been. Seeing some of our more vulnerable children joining in, building confidence and having fun has been a huge change. We have seen a huge increase in their confidence. They will definitely use many of the things they have learned this week to help them with the challenge of transitioning to secondary school. The programme has been amazing!” Rebecca Morgan-Jones, Year 6 teacher, Sandfields Primary School
